Hai, my beloved watchers.
I feel like doing a small rant, and asking a bit of an opinion.
I had given out DVDs of grad pictures to a few of the grads that I knew, for them and/or their parents to look at, get some prints of, etc. as a courtesy. I didn't charge them any money, and if they offered I refused (money would bring expectations of results and quality). I figured this was a nice thing to do, since only 2 or 3 of the shots made it to my dA.
I have (unconfirmed) reports that one parent may have taken the DVD and uploaded them all to facebook. Now, I hate facebook, and think people spend far too much time on it, and have too much of their life on there.
I'm not sure if i should be irritated about this, or what. If they did in fact upload them, they did so without my permission. Though, I gave all the pictures to them.
First question: Does anyone know the legality ins and outs? I'd be curious to know if they're in the right to do what they want with the pictures.
Now, I keep most of my stuff off of facebook for a reason. I don't care what their terms of service says, I don't trust them to keep my pictures MINE. DeviantART, I find, is more reputable, my images here have a copyright message underneath, unless i choose to release then Creative Commons, as I occasionally do.
I've been pondering about it. The parent was likely proud of their child for graduating (I'll save the argument that grad is largely pointless for some other time) and wanted family to see the pictures. I also have to check to see if I was given credit for them, or what exactly the story is. Yay, another "Friend" on failbook and 56 new quiz and app invites!
Anyway, second question: What would you do about it? Add a watermark to images? Just give up and put them on facebook? Perhaps ask kindly for them to take them down? Ignore this but stop giving out pictures? I'm not really sure what the thing to do is, and what the legal bit surrounding this is.
Anyway, if you've made it this far, let me know what you think.

Be what you want to be not what other perceive you to be. I am a writer, an artist, a photographer and so much more then what is seen on my flesh.
